Photography
Photography usually plays a large part in my creative process. Before I begin a new wildlife painting, I sketch some studies from several different photo’s, to get a real understanding of the subject. I look at various postures, to get a feel for how the animal moves and to gain some insight into it’s characteristics.
Recently I’ve been concentrating on building up a larger reference library. It’s an opportunity to brush up on my photography skills as I go along. My father was an enthusiastic hobbyist photographer. Hopefully I’ve learnt a little from him as he worked at capturing that brilliant photo where everything alines; the lighting, the background, the subject matter. As I build up my reference material, I’ve been playing around with some photography just for arts sake, enjoying getting creative with perspectives and subject matter.
